In what might be music technology’s worst kept secret, Twitter finally launched their new music discovery service, appropriately named #Music. The discovery platform is designed to help users find new music based on the artists (established & newcomers) that are trending on Twitter.
The music platform is available as in iPhone app, or by heading to music.twitter.com.
#Music allows Twitter users to browse through various categories of artists, playing samples of music through iTunes, Rdio, and Spotify. Users of Rdio and Spotify can stream the songs in their entirety.
The categories of artists include:
– Popular: Music trending on Twitter
– Emerging: Hidden talent found in the tweets
– Suggested: Artists you might like
– #NowPlaying: Tweeted by people you follow
– Me: Artists you follow
Check out #Music and let us know what you think! Will this be an effective service in the cluttered music discovery market? or is this another digital platform that will struggle for a piece of the audience pie. Give us your thoughts below.
